What to Do If You Drop Your iPhone in Water?
1. Turn It Off Immediately
- If it’s still on, power it off to avoid short circuits.
- Don’t press any buttons unnecessarily.
2. Remove Accessories
- Take off the case, SIM card, and any connected accessories to help it dry faster.
3. Dry the Outside
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe off as much water as possible.
- Gently shake the phone with ports facing downward to remove trapped water.
4. Don’t Use Heat or Rice
- Don’t use a hairdryer, oven, or direct sunlight—heat can cause more damage.
- Don’t put it in rice—it’s not very effective, and rice dust can clog the ports.
5. Use Silica Gel Packets (If Available)
- Place your phone in a sealed bag with silica gel packets (the ones found in shoeboxes).
- Leave it for at least 24-48 hours.
6. Avoid Charging Too Soon
- Wait at least 24 hours before trying to turn it on or charge it.
- If you see a “liquid detected” warning, wait longer.
7. Try Wireless Charging
- If your Lightning port still has moisture, wireless charging may work instead.
8. Check for Functionality
- After at least 24 hours, turn it on and test the touchscreen, speaker, microphone, and camera.
9. Get Professional Help if Needed
- If your iPhone isn’t working properly, visit an Apple Store or repair shop.
- Apple’s limited warranty doesn’t cover liquid damage, but if you have AppleCare+, it may be repaired at a lower cost.
